Skin Boosters, Polynucleotides vs. Profhilo: Understanding the Difference and Benefits

Skin Boosters, Polynucleotides vs. Profhilo: Understanding the Difference and Benefits

Profhilo is a specific type of skin booster known for its ability to boost hydration as well as stimulate collagen production. At Medicetics, we offer both Profhilo and other hyaluronic acid skin boosters (e.g. Belotero Revive, Juvedérm® VOLITE, Teoxane Redensity 1), as well as PolyNucleotide skinboosters including Ameela and Plinest. We also offer the latest hybrid filler, HArmonyCA a combination of skinbooster and hyaluronic acid filler. Each treatment is tailored to different skincare needs and goals.

In this post, we’ll explore the differences between these treatments, the unique benefits they offer, and how you can decide which one might be the best option for you.

What Are Skin Boosters?

Skin boosters are injectable treatments that work beneath the surface of the skin to deeply hydrate and improve texture. Unlike traditional dermal fillers, which add volume, skin boosters primarily focus on improving skin hydration, texture, and overall skin quality (think early creepiness rather than wrinkles) by stimulating your skin cells to repair and regenerate, producing more collagen and elastin as well as a hyaluronic acid surge for hydration.

What Is Profhilo?

Profhilo uses hyaluronic acid, an ‘injectable moisturiser’ but also works by stimulating the production of collagen and elastin, two proteins that are essential for maintaining firm, youthful skin. This makes Profhilo more than just a hydration treatment—it’s a bio-remodelling solution that tackles skin laxity and improves skin structure.

With one of the highest concentrations of hyaluronic acid available, Profhilo is injected into specific points of the face or neck to deliver hydration deep into the skin layers, while also prompting your body to produce more collagen and elastin. We also use it on the body e.g. decollete and belly. The result? Firmer, tighter skin with improved elasticity and a natural glow. And the best part—Profhilo requires only two treatments, spaced four weeks apart, to achieve optimal results that can last for up to 6 months.

How Do Profhilo and Other Skin Boosters Differ?

We are asked every day in the clinic about Polynucleotides aka ‘sperm facials’. Polynucleotides are the other many ‘class’ of skinbooster, injected to boost the action of cells in the deep layers of your skin that cannot be reached by skincare products bought over the counter.

They differ from products like Profhilo, Revive and Juvederm Volite in that the main component is NOT hyaluronic acid. At Medicetics we find this particularly useful when treating the undereye area, as there is far less risk of swelling and puffiness after treatment. But otherwise, we do not have a hard fast rule as to when one type of skinbooster should be used over another.

Why Our Clients Love Profhilo: Alex’s Experience

At Medicetics, our clients’ experiences highlight the quality of our treatments. Alex, who has been a client of Dr Sepi for 18 months, started with Profhilo and was thrilled with the results. Here’s what she had to say:

"I’ve been seeing Dr Sepi for 18 months. I started with Profhilo and was really impressed by Dr Sepi’s skills, professionalism, and approach to her work. So much so that when I decided to try Botox, I had no doubts whatsoever that I was in safe hands. As well as being really happy with the results, the best endorsement I can give is that on more than one occasion, she’s said 'no, you don’t need that' when I’ve asked for further treatment, which speaks to her integrity. The front of house staff are also always very friendly and helpful."

Alex’s story highlights the ethos of Medicetics: personalised care. We believe in honest recommendations, and we won’t suggest treatments unless they’re truly beneficial for you. This personalised, ethical approach ensures our clients feel confident in their choices and trust us with their skincare journey.

Introducing HArmonyCA: The New Hybrid Approach

In addition to skin boosters and Profhilo, we also offer HArmonyCA, an exciting hybrid dermal filler that combines immediate volumising effects with long-term collagen stimulation. HArmonyCA uses both hyaluronic acid and calcium hydroxyapatite to smooth wrinkles, restore volume, and boost collagen production over time.

For clients experiencing more pronounced signs of ageing—such as sagging skin or deep wrinkles—HArmonyCA offers an immediate lift while also improving skin firmness and elasticity in the long term. This treatment is particularly effective for those in their 40s and 50s who want a natural yet noticeable result.

Which Treatment Is Right for You?

Choosing between Profhilo, Polynucleotides and HArmonyCA depends on your specific skin concerns and goals. Here’s a guide to help you decide:

  • If hydration and glow are your main goals: Skin boosters like Profhilo, Juvedérm® VOLITE or Revive are ideal. These treatments are perfect for those with dry, tired skin looking to improve texture and radiance without adding volume.
  • If you want to address changes in your undereye skin, a loss of firmness, fine lines or dark circles, Polynucleotides may be your best choice. This treatment works deep within the skin to remodel and tighten.
  • If you want an instant lift with long-term benefits: HArmonyCA is perfect for those seeking immediate volume combined with ongoing collagen stimulation, offering natural-looking results that improve over time.
